Volvo C30 Electric – Winter Test [VIDEO]
Volvo tested the C30 Electric in winter conditions at temperatures as low as -20 Celsius to ensure the battery powered car performs smoothly.
Volvo requires the C30 Electric to meet all the stringent tests that all Volvo cars are put through and have designed several new tests for electric powered cars.
-The Volvo C30 is equipped with three climate systems:
- One supplies the passengers with heating or cooling
- One cools or warms the battery pack.
- And a Water cooling system is used to cool the electric motor and power electronics.
Volvo has an innovative way of using Bio Ethanol to heat the passenger compartment without having to use battery power. A Bio Ethanol heater is fitted to all C30’s with a tank capacity of 14.5 litres. However in the event of the Bio Ethanol fuel running empty the climate system can be run on battery power, coolant in the climate unit is heated when in electric mode.
