Set for a public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week, the new Golf cabriolet is based on the underpinnings of the latest MkVI Golf GTI.

The two-door four-seater cabriolet features an electrically operated canvas top, that can be raised or lowered in 9.5 seconds at speeds of up to 18mph. The newcomer does not have the permanent rollover hoop, like its predecessor had, which was last seen in 2002. Instead it features a pop-up system that is activated when the car detects it’s about to flip over.
