Porsche 911 (991) Snapped With Less Disguise, Rear Wing Up
We have further new spy shots of the 991, which will carry the 911 badge as normal when launched, with less disguise around the front lights, front bumper and rear lights. The silver side vents are not real – it’s just a sticker to fox observers (failed!). We also reveal the spoiler in its raised position as the car hits speed on the autobahn. Both the coupe and cabrio have been photographed by our undercover lensmen.
The new 911 will be 56mm (just over two inches) longer than the current one and measure 4.49m (about 14 feet 8 inches) in length, with an extended wheelbase to offer more interior room as well as to better support hybrid systems — there may even be hybrids at launch.
The new 911 will be 11mm (half an inch) lower compared to the current model. The entry-level 911 width will remain unchanged, but the Carrera S model will feature a 60mm (two and a third inch) wider rear. Other highlights are a completely new rear axle, LED lights across the whole range and revised engines with improved performance and fuel-economy. Rumours abound that the base 911 will share its boxer petrol engine with the next Boxster S.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Porsche unveils the new 911 at the Frankfurt motor show in September. The price will be from about 90,000 Euros.
