New smaller, cheaper model Mini will be unveiled next March at Geneva Motor Show
The Mini City Car concept will be ready for display at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011. The new entry level Mini is rumored to only have two seats, a smaller design and powered by a small efficient three cylinder engine, placing the New Mini as a serious rival to the Smart City car and the T25 City Car.
The new Mini will be a front engined, front wheel drive city car with basic features, reducing costs to a mini £10,000 (€12,000 eqv) suggested price. Making the new smaller Mini more true to the original 1959 Austin and Morris Mini which was sold for less than £500 (€600) than the classic BMW MINI reproduction similar to VW’s spiritual reincarnation of the Beetle.
The new Mini is due to hit show rooms by the first quarter of 2012.
