Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe

Images of the Mercedes-Benz C63 Black Series Coupe have leaked out after it was caught testing at the Paul Ricard race track by French website SpeedFans.fr.

The new model you see here is less hardcore than the CLK 63 AMG Black Series that it replaces and is intended more for everyday use.   For a start, this is the first Black Series car to offer four real seats.  It is likely to come in coupe and saloon form.

But this does not mean the C63 Black Series is watered down, however.  AMG, Mercedes’ in-house tuning arm and the guys behind the SLS AMG, have tweaked the 6.2 litre V8 petrol engine to 517bhp, enough to ensure the 0-62mph sprint should take no more than about four seconds.

So, typical Black Series in some respects, yet more accessible; and this will be reflected in the fact that it won’t be limited to small production numbers, if the rumour-mill is to be believed.  Mind you, they’ll still be fairly small with a likely price tag in excess of £100,000, although we need to remember that the less powerful limited edition BMW M3 GTS came in £120K.

Regardless, there’s going to be some very lucky owners out there.

Expect a debut at the Frankfurt show in September with orders being taken shortly afterwards.
