Hyundai has unveiled Korea’s first full speed electric vehicle called BlueOn. The tiny electric car is based on the i10 and has a maximum speed of 130 km/h. Range from a full charge is up to 140 km and it takes six hours to fully recharge the battery from a standard household system. Under the quick charge method, 80 percent of battery’s capacity can be charged within 25 minutes.

BlueOn’s overall length is 3,585 mm, width 1,595 mm and height 1,540 mm. It is equipped with a 16.4 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack and the electric motor boasts a maximum power of 80 hp (61kW) and maximum torque of 210 Nm.

0-100 km/h comes in 13.1 seconds and the maximum speed is 130 km/h. For the safety of pedestrians BlueOn features Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS), which creates an artificial sound, as electric vehicles make little to no sound when driving at low speeds.

By October Hyundai plans to provide 30 BlueOn vehicles as test fleets to various government organizations in Korea. These vehicles will be mainly used to help develop and test charging infrastructures for about two years, until August 2012. By the end of 2012 Hyundai plans to make about 2,500 units.
