Opel has announced that they are now taking reservations for the 2011 Ampera, Europe’s first electric vehicle with extended-range capability. The Ampera is basically a rebadged Chevrolet Volt for the European market.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the base model starts at 42,900 euros, including national VAT. though the final price depends on the trim level, country specific taxes and government grants for alternative fuel vehicles.

Opel Ampera features a 150 hp electric motor that gets its power from a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery. Range in the EV mode is 40-80 km, total range with the range-extender is up to 500 km.

Sales will start in the fourth quarter of 2011, and Opel is already taking reservations, so if you act fast you could be driving the Ampera before next christmas.
